March Madness Begins With The Jersey Shore Specialist’s Alma Mater!

Bring on NovaThis year it’s personal! A very large portion my family members are Villanova alums. I don’t know if you know any Villanova alumni, but when it comes to basketball, they are very serious fans. And, this year they have a stellar team.

I, on the other hand, am a graduate of Lafayette. While we excel on the education grid, it’s been 15 years since Lafayette’s been involved in the famed NCAA Tournament. But, after beating American last week to win the Patriot League Championship, they’re back in the game. Rated a No. 16 seed, they will face off against No. 1 seed Villanova (who is no recent stranger to tournament play).

So, are the odds against my Leopards? Well, yes they are. Admittedly, up until last week, I wouldn’t have even been able to tell you with any level of certainty if we even had a basketball team. But, as my friend and fellow alumnus, John D’Esposito, said, “If they knew who would win they wouldn’t play the game.” Being an eternal optimist, I am hopeful. I’m just not sure my “Villanova” family could handle an upset like that.
where on the jersey shore is barb scaffidiSo, will my sister, brother-in-law, and their children be watching the game with me? Ummm, no. While they may actually be heading to Pittsburgh to watch the game live, I’ll be with my family at Maria’s Italian Restaurant in Manasquan, NJ. With a large bar area, 3 big-screen TV’s, and great food, it’s the perfect venue to watch the game.Whether you will be cheering on the Villanova Wildcats or the Lafayette Leopards, feel free to come watch at Maria’s with me. While a Leopard upset is yet to be determined, what I can predict for sure is that it will be a lot of fun!

In November, the Leopards trounced Lehigh to win the 100th Anniversary Lafayette-Lehigh football game held at Yankee Stadium. Maybe it’s the year of sports victories for Lafayette. You just never know.
