Spectacular new listing in Apple Ridge, Wall Township!

Marina Grille(APP.com ~ May 9, 2017)  BELMAR – The borough on Tuesday unveiled the latest piece of its redevelopment plan with the opening of a $6 million restaurant overlooking the Shark River.

The Marina Grille is being run by Chefs International, which constructed the borough-owned building under the agreement with Belmar. The borough is leasing the property to Chefs International for $250,000 a year initially.

The borough expects to receive $24 million over the 50-year term of the contract, Mayor Matt Doherty said.

The 12,000-square-foot facility and sprawling outdoor patio will have year-round casual dining. It’s adjacent to the 9th Ave Pier, a seasonal restaurant the company has been running since 2012.

“It helps make Belmar a destination away from the beach,” Doherty said.

The Marina Grille will share a concessionaire’s permit with 9th Ave Pier that allows both to sell alcohol but prohibits the permit from being sold or transferred.

Doherty said the Marina Grille will generate 200 jobs.

Chefs International owns Jack Baker’s Wharfside Restaurant in Point Pleasant Beach, Baker’s Water Street Bar & Grille in Toms River, and eight other restaurants in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida. And it has been expanding in Belmar, buying Connolly Station and renaming it the Anchor Tavern.

black trumpetMemorial Day Weekend has arrived and the weather is cooperating nicely. Marking the start of what should be a glorious summer at the Jersey Shore, there is no end to fun things to do here. If eating is a big part of your summer entertainment, Monmouth and Ocean Counties are home to some of the most delectable restaurants. And, what could be better than enjoying a most spectacular meal while also taking in the incredible waterfront views?

Jersey Shore In Motion has rated their top 25 waterfront restaurants, and you can find them by clicking here. I think they nailed the top 25, although I probably would have numbered them differently. Give them a try, and see what you think. The fun is in the tasting!

IMG_5220When you think of the Jersey Shore, you probably envision all the fun that summertime brings…walks on the boardwalk in the hot sun, reading a good book on the beach, and sand between your toes. But, what you might not know is that the Jersey Shore is an equally great winter destination.

Here are five great reasons to live at the Jersey Shore in the winter:

  1. Ambiance. There is something so incredibly serene and romantic about watching the snow fall upon the jetty over the Atlantic.
  2. Food. The Jersey Shore is home to some stellar restaurants, like the Black Trumpet in Spring Lake, Undici in Rumson, Lubrano’s Trattoria in Wall Township, and Maria’s in Manasquan, to name a few. These are restaurants which you will find much easier to get into in the winter time.
  3. Education. Some of the top schools can be found at the Jersey Shore. Monmouth County, for example, has five blue-ribbon public vocational schools.
  4. Shopping. Shop in the quaint local shops without the crowds of the summer vacationers. You will be surprised at the great deals you can get in the winter, as well.
  5. Attractions. There’s still plenty of things to do for entertainment in the winter at the Jersey Shore. The rides may be stored for the winter at Jenkinson’s Boardwalk in Point Pleasant Beach, but the arcades are open all year round. The Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank and the Algonquin in Manasquan offer shows every weekend. The art galleries are open in Asbury Park.

You will be pleasantly surprised to find all that the Jersey Shore offers in the winter. It can be cheaper, it’s less crowded, and you won’t have to fight for parking spaces. And, if you want to take a dip in the ocean, go ahead. You won’t be the first to venture into the Atlantic on a cold winter day.

Close proximity to many Jersey Shore Restaurant Week restaurants!

One of the great things about living at the Jersey shore is that you can always find a great deli restaurant for a quick breakfast or lunch. One of the great ones is the Seabreeze Deli at 111 Hwy 71 in Spring Lake Heights.Seabreeze

From the outside it looks deceivingly small, but when you walk in you notice that they have a large seating area for dining, parties or business meetings. Upon entry, you are greeted with a large coffee bar with various flavors of fresh coffee. As you approach the counter to place your order you will find pots of homemade soups…everything from traditional chicken noodle, broccoli and cheese, chili and many more to choose from. The soups change daily.

The one item on the menu that stands out is a Jersey favorite, pork roll, egg and cheese. These guys can really make a great sandwich!  Well, they have had a lot of practice considering they are celebrating the serving of over 1 million pork roll, egg and cheese sandwiches. One million!  That’s right. That should tell you they know their way around breakfast sandwiches.  Aside from having the classic breakfast sandwiches, they also offer French toast, pancakes, and egg platters with breakfast potatoes and your choice of meat.

If you are looking for lunch, they have that covered as well. Seabreeze is a full service deli, featuring all of your favorite subs and sandwiches. My personal favorite is their pulled pork sandwich on a soft roll. As a special this month, you can get two pulled pork sandwiches and fries for $4.99. That is a deal that is too good to pass up. Also featured on the menu is a half-pound burger, a 9″ hot dog, melts and different specials daily.

Additionally, if you are planning a picnic or party Seabreeze a great catering menu with many food options to choose from. If are looking for a basic deli platter or a BBQ feast they have exactly what you need. All the food is cooked to order and the staff is very pleasant and helpful.

The next time you are in the area, be sure to stop in and try a pork roll, egg and cheese sandwich and find out what 1 million people already know. They are awesome!

Enjoy your breakfast in your tranquil backyard!

Pete and Elda’s Bar & Carmen’s Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant – The Best Thin-Crust Pizza on the Jersey Shore!

One of my favorite spots at the Jersey Shore in the Neptune area is Pete and Elda’s Bar and Carmen’s Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant. It is located in Neptune City at 96 Woodland Ave./Route 35. When people hear the name Pete and Elda’s Pizza they immediately think of one thing: the BEST thin crust pizza on the Jersey shore. They claim to have invented the thin-crust style pizza that has become very popular over the last couple of years. I don’t know if they invented it or not, but I do know that it is the best thin-crust pizza I have ever eaten.

When you enter the restaurant, you walk into a very large bar area- complete with big screen TVs showing all of your favorite sports. This is a great place to grab a quick snack, an after work cocktail, or just to watch the game with friends. You can also eat at the bar, where you will get 2 separate checks – one for the food and the other for the bar. They always have specials at the bar on both food and drinks.

Property in this area

They have a very large restaurant area- but don’t let that fool you! If you go in without reservations, you could wind up waiting. I have been to this place over 100 times – I’m sure I have had everything on the menu numerous times, so here are a couple of my favorites. If you are looking for a hot appetizer, I would go for the Mussels in a red sauce. You get a pile of steaming mussels covered in a spicy marinara, served with bread. For the salad lovers in your group, I would definitely recommend the chopped cold antipasti -fresh garden vegetables, salami, and provolone cheese served with ice cold iceberg lettuce, chopped and mixed. You get a choice of dressings, but I usually just stick with traditional oil and balsamic vinegar. This will easily serve two adults. All of their hot and cold sandwiches areserved on fresh Italian bread – and if you are in the mood for pasta, they offer many to choose from. I recommend the linguine and white clam sauce – a big bowl of al dente linguine smothered in a delicious clam sauce.

But back to the pizza – they serve the crispiest, most flavorful pizza on the Jersey Shore! Of course, they offer all of the usual toppings. One of the fun things that Carmen’s does is give a free t-shirt to anyone who can eat a XL pizza alone – finish this by yourself, and you will join the very exclusive Carmen’s Whole Pizza Eaters Club. This promotion has been going on for years and is very popular – I am proud to say that I am a member of this club many times over.

Overall, this is a great experience. They have something for everyone, and a great atmosphere. It is kid-friendly, and they have a full bar for the adults. So head on over to Pete and Elda’s and Carmen’s Pizzeria for the best thin-crust pizza on the Jersey Shore!

Max's Famous Hot Dogs

One of the signs that summer is finally upon the Jersey Shore is when Max’s Famous Hot Dogs in Long Branch opens its doors for the season. This restaurant has been a fixture in Long Branch since 1928, when the original Max’s was located on the Long Branch Pier. After three fires and a hurricane, Max’s moved to their current location on Ocean Blvd at Matilda Terrace in Long Branch. When you walk into Max’s, there are many pictures of the various celebrities and politicians who have eaten at the restaurant – Jersey rock legends Bruce Springsteen, Steven Van Zandt, and Jon Bon Jovi, to name a few. Other photos include actors Joe Pesci, Red Buttons, Joe Pantoliano, John Travolta, Jackie Mason and Dean Martin. Max’s was also a favorite of former Cardinal John O’Connor (he loved the place so much, a blessing was bestowed on Max’s) and former NJ Governor Brendon Byrne. There are too many guests of honor up on the wall to mention – make sure you check them out when you visit.

Homes Nearby

Max’s Famous Hot Dogs serves 1/4 pound Shickhaus hot dogs that are slow cooked to perfection on the grill – crispy on the outside and full of flavor on the inside. They also came up with the idea of serving Jersey fresh corn on the cob, an offering that separated them from the other hot dog stands in the area. Add to that the fact that they serve huge portions of steak fries and onion rings, and you have their recipe for success. Over the years their menu has grown – they now offer grilled burgers, fried baskets, milk shakes, and other Jersey shore favorites. Would you like a cold beer or a cocktail with your hot dog? Max’s has a full bar, too!

Whether you live down the shore, vacation here, or just make day trips, Max’s is the one place that should not be missed. But remember, they’re only open through October! You can go inside and sit down at a table or a barstool, or if you’re in a hurry just head to the convenient take-out window. I think former NJ Governor Christine Todd Whitman said it best: “Democrats and Republicans are in agreement on very few issues, but we can all concur that Max’s in Long Branch serves the most outstanding hot dogs in New Jersey.”
